Magnesium

Lightweight, flexible and highly versatile, magnesium has become is one of the world's most strategically important industrial metals.

Magnesium is one of the world‘s most important industrial metals. Valued for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and ability to flex, it plays a critical role in aerospace, defence, automotive manufacturing and advanced engineering. As global demand continues to grow, secure sources of magnesium are becoming increasingly important to international supply chains.

Southland, NZ

Hardie Pacific is currently focused on two separate magnesium deposits in Southland, New Zealand. The region has a strong mining and mineral processing history, supported by low-cost hydro and wind power, a pro-mining local government and easy access to the modern Bluff deep water port.

Southland magnesium deposits extensive ultramafic rock formations covering approximately 665 km², hosts magnesium together with associated nickel, copper and chromium. These projects are well positioned to support the diversification of future magnesium supply.

Our Advantage

Hardie Pacific has spent more than a decade evaluating ultramafic systems throughout New Zealand. This work includes geological mapping, exploration, resource evaluation, drilling and metallurgical laboratory research undertaken in collaboration with leading international laboratories and institutions.

Global Relevance

As governments and industries prioritise secure and transparent supply chains, new producers with strong geological foundations and strategic alignment are becoming increasingly important. Hardie Pacific’s regional footprint, combined with expert geologists and rising demand from advanced industries, positions its critical mineral assets within a broader global shift toward resilient, future-focused mineral supply.
